Nov 12, 2008, the Board of Education adopted a budget revision. That revision reflects changes in revenue and expenditures that were unknown during the budget planning process.
For example grant funds received for the CDL project at Schoenbar Middle School had not been awarded. After adopting the budget KGBSD received approximately $300,000 to provide a ditigal learning environment in Schoenbar. The Association of Alaska School Boards gave $200,000 and The Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly gave $100,000 for membership in the Consortium of Digital Learning.
Some expenditures were estimates, such as teacher salaries. We hired 23 new teachers (no new positions, this was filling positions that were open) this year and added 5 days to the calendar. Those contracts exceeded our projections.
